My mother was born on April 4, 1922, in Rome, Georgia. She was the daughter of Robert and Annie May Otting. Brothers were:Jack Edward, Elbert, Robert Jr.,and John Willis Otting. Her sisters are: Sadie Otting Ledbetter, June, and Annie Otting. My mother spent her whole life in Rome.
My mother corresponded by letters for 3 years to my daddy who was stationed mostly in Colorado during World War II. They met in 1945, and later that year they married. They never had any biological children. On October 17, 1958, they adopted me Kathy Diane.
My mother enjoyed: crocheting, embroidering, sewing, making beautiful things from other crafts, and she was a green thumb by growing beautiful flowers.
My mother used to work in a textile mill, but after I was adopted, she quit working to be a full time wife and mother.
My mother was deeply sadden with the passing of my daddy in 1988. My mother then got involved with activities at the Senior Citizen Center and other activities. She was a christian and a member of Hollywood Baptist Church in Rome.
My mother passed away quietly alone in her apartment on January 11,2000. Funeral services were held on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the Hollywood Baptist Church. The Rev. R. O. Stone and Rev. Ralph Dingler officiated. Interment was in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
My mother had 3 grandchildren: Christie Diane Howard; Jack Mathew Franklin and James Anthony Franklin. She got to see 3 out of the four great-grandchildren who were born before she passed away.
Thank you for all the notes and flowers. She would have really loved them. Many thanks to Maureen for sponsering my Mother's memorial. Also many thanks to my cousin,Amanda Bonds-Talley for adding the pictures of my mother and to Rene "Nay" Padgett for putting frames around them. They are all special angels!!
