Henry was the last child of Philander and Hannah (Beals) Armstrong. He had one brother and two sisters. In 1870, he is with the family in Colona Henry Co IL. 1880, he is still with the family in Fairport Muscatine IA and is a fisherman. By 1900, he is still single and is in Albany Whiteside, IL working as a button cutter.

In about 1902, he married Mae McNomee, granddaughter of Hannah Armstrong who had a daughter Martha while she was still single, before she married Philander. Henry only lived about 12 more years passing away September 9, 1914 in Davenport Scott County Iowa at age 51.

Mae married again to Henry P. Steckel, and she died September 20, 1927.
