Husband of Victoire Le Vaugine

Second son of Louis Xavier Martin de Chalmette (1720-1755), who was the founder of the city of Chalmette and owner of the Chalmette Plantation, which was the site of the Battle of New Orleans in January, 1815.
He fought in the battle, on his own property, despite his age, and witnessed the devastation of his home. Although not wounded, he died on February 10, 1815. It is believed that his illness was the result of the loss he had experienced.

He was a Revolutionary War soldier. He served as a captain in the Infantry Regiment of Louisiana under Governor Bernardo Gálvez, in his successful campaigns against the British. 1779-1781.
According to the Daughters of the American Revolution records, his service description is Gálvez, New Orleans Militia.
The service source is listed as Holmes, Honor and Fidelity, p. 101.
