June 13, 1901
Monday night at midnight, Mahala Blackwell, wife of Harrison Blackwell, gave up the bottle of life and passed peacefully to the life beyond. Mrs. Blackwell has been we might say, a constant sufferer for a long time and friends knew that her strength was not sufficient to hold against such suffering a great while. She bore her pain patiently and feared not the end.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hutcherson at the residence at 9 o’clock yesterday morning and the remains were buried in Bass cemetery.
To those who are in sorrow the Commercial extends sympathy and offers this consolations. If Heaven, as we are taught is eternal joy why grieve when our friends are called. Life compared with eternity is but a moment, and those now with us will soon all enter the city of the dead.
