Bill was born July 27, 1929, in New York City, N.Y., the son of Henrietta and Gustav Winterfeld. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a graduate of Wagoner Lutheran College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and did graduate work at Syracuse University. Bill retired from Union Carbide Corp with over 20 years of service. He was member of MENSA and the Rondout Masonic Lodge Kingston, N.Y. Bill was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder for the past 30 years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris; and brother, George.
Surviving are wife of 45 years, Marilyn Winterfeld; sons, Jeffrey, Scott and wife Diane; and two grandchildren, Justin and Dylan. Also surviving is brother, Charles of Hurley of New York.
There will be a memorial service and celebration of Bill's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church on Lawndale Drive, Charleston, with the Rev. Richard Mahan officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to service at the Church on Saturday. Entombment will follow the services in the church's Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Hubbard Hospice House, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. West, Charleston, WV 25312-2536.
