Doris Juanita Riggs, 88, of Wilmington passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.
She was born in Wilson, NC on July 9, 1926 to the late Bennie Batson and Bessie Baker Batson. Doris is also preceded in death by her husband John Bryant Riggs, Jr. and sisters Esther Willett and Joyce Dodd.
Juanita is survived by her son David Glenn Riggs and wife Susan of Wilmington, NC; daughter Susan Gail Jones and husband Bob of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren Bryan Cunningham (Holly), Bridgette Cooney (Michael Dress), Jeremy Riggs (Jill), Michele Riggs and Zachary Riggs; great-grandchildren Cassidy Cooney, Natalie and Ruby Riggs, Kelsey Tregembo and Alex and Kaylee Signorello; brother Clifton Batson of Chapel Hill, NC; special friends Fay Robertson and family, Carrie and Buddy Adkins and family and the late Paul Squires and family; as well as her extended family in Johnson County, NC.
Juanita was a graduate of New Hanover High School class of 1947, a member of the Lunch Bunch- her school buddies that met frequently through the years for lunch. She was a wonderful mother and a great cook.
A visitation will be held from 10-11am Saturday, May 23 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel where funeral services will begin at 11am. Services to be officiated by Pastor Rob Strickland. Interment will follow the service at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
