Enlisted July 23, 1917, in Troop A, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Squadron A Cavalry reorganized for the World War, October 13, 1917, as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion , 27th Division. He was assigned to Company A. The 105 MG Battalion was assigned to Camp Wadsworth, SC, for training.
After training at Camp Wadsworth the battalion shipped out for Europe, May 17, 1918, from Newport News, VA, aboard the USS Calomares. The 105th MG Battalion docked, May 30, 1918, at St. Nazaire, France.
After additional training in France he entered the Lines, July 17, 1918, seeing combat in both Belgium and France. He retuned to the States with the 105th MG Battalion, February 26, 1919, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken , NJ, March 6, 1919.
He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade ", up 5th Avenue, in New York City, March 25, 1919 and discharged from the service, April 1, 1919, at Camp Upton, NY.
