A U.S. Merchant Marine casualty of the Second World War. He was a Steward serving aboard the American freighter SS Steel Maker (Isthmian SS Co., Port of New York). He was the only crewman lost when German submarine U-654 torpedoed the unescorted and zigzagging freighter in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 350 miles east of Wilmington, North Carolina.
