Thomas was born in Denver and at the age of three years old his family moved to Little Silver, New Jersey in 1947. He attended Valley Forge Academy, before enlisting in the Marines in 1963.
Thomas had already served completed his first tour of duty and was on his second tour where he had been assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Thomas died as a result of hostile small arms fire in the vicinity of An Coung (2), Namyen and Hill 30, where 50 Marines and 2 Corpsman were killed while participating in Operation Starlight.
Tour of duty unknown.
Survived by his parents, Mr & Mrs Firth, a sister and a brother al of Little Silver, New Jersey.
