Charles Urie Brownlee was born 6 Mar 1872 in North Franklin Township, Washington County, PA to Robert W. and Matilda (Patton) Brownlee. His Brownlee ancestors were early pioneers of Washington County, originating from the Brownlees of Torfoot in Lanarkshire Scotland. He had a brother, Edwin P., who was a blacksmith @ 1910. Charles Brownlee was raised in Washington, PA, attending public schools and afterwards learned bricklaying. He was a partner in Brownlee & Leslie General Brick Contractors in Washington, PA for 15 years up to the time of his death.
On 7 Oct 1896, he married Georgie M Stewart (1869-1943)of Cross Creek Township, Washington County. She was the daughter of JJ and Elizabeth (Hanna) Stewart. They had one son, Edwin Stewart Brownlee, born 1897 and died at the age of 14 as the result of an accident in 1911.
Charles was a Veteran of the Spanish-American War.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Washington, PA.
He died unexpectedly August 26,1914 in a car accident in Ashland, OH, where he was enroute to Savanah OH to pick up his wife from a family reunion. He was 42 years old.
