He was born May 22, 1905 in Garrard County, Kentucky to the late Willie and Sally Hughes and was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Clyde O'Hearn. Survivors include, his wife Margaret Montgomery Hughes; one stepson, H.C. Shearer; one step-daughter, Mary Jane Stempfly; 3 step-grandchildren, Tammy King, Michael and Johnny Shearer and 8 step-great-grandchildren.
