"HOLMAN, MARY VIRGINIA (Keeper) - 91 of Northfield, NJ went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2015. Mary was born in June of 1923 in Atlantic City. Mary and her family have a long history with Atlantic City going back to the 1800's. Her father Ameen Daher immigrated to the United States and her mother Mary Bullock was born in Atlantic City in the late 1800's. They were proprietors of an Ice Cream and Salt Water Taffy store on the "World Famous" boardwalk (Her favorite desert was an ice cream ‘Parfait'.). Her great grandfather Amos Bullock is enshrined on a plaque as a major contributor to the construction of the AC boardwalk. Mary was a graduate of Holy Spirit High school. She lived in Atlantic City, Venice Park, Florida, Stratford, and Absecon before moving to Northfield in 1969. She worked at Woolworth, the Claridge Hotel, Manpower, New Jersey Racing Commission and the Division of Gaming Enforcement before retiring at the age of 75. She was a wave during WWII, a devout member of the Catholic Church, a member of the American Business Woman's Association, a member of the Northfield Book Club and volunteered at Shore Memorial Hospital. Mary was a gentle and loving mother, grandmother and cherished wife. She was the consummate mother, hard-working and dedicated to raising her children. She faced much adversity early in her life, having to raise her first three sons after the tragic death of her first husband, Richard who died one day after the birth of their son L*****. Mary cherished her many friendships and loved everyone she met, invited them into her life and stored them in her tremendous memory. Mary was known for her "stories" about growing up in Atlantic City. Her many experiences, recanted with crystal clarity including working at Woolworth on the Boardwalk (where she met her first love and husband) and meeting stars such as Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland, and enjoying her time along the AC shoreline, including Heinz, Garden, Steel and Million Dollar Piers. She is survived by her sons R***** K***** and his wife D****, Dr. L***** K***** and his wife C******** (her late-night confidant), and T****** H***** (ole' reliable) as well as her daughter J***** (Nee H*****) and husband G*** D******, and her daughter-in-law P**** K*****. She is also survived by seven Grandchildren (T*****, R*****, M***, J*******, M******, C**** and C********) and two Great Grandchildren (V***** and C******). Mary was preceded in death by her first husband Richard Keeper, her husband Bertram Holman to whom she was married to over 50 years and her first born son Richard Keeper. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am Wednesday, May 27th at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Absecon. A viewing will be held at the church, beginning at 10am. Burial, Laurel Memorial Park, Egg Harbor Twp. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home."
