Alicia Nash's given name at birth was Alicia Esther Lopez-Harrison de Larde. She was a naturalized citizen from El Salvador and a M.I.T. physics major from an aristocratic Salvadoran family. Alicia was the wife of the famous John Forbes Nash, Jr. She married him in February 1957. Due to the stress of dealing with his illness, Nash and de Lardé divorced on August 2, 1963. According to Sylvia Nasar’s biography of her husband John Forbes Nash, Jr., Alicia allowed him to live with her again in 1970 as a boarder, seven years after their divorce. The stability seemed to help him. After he won the Nobel Prize in 1994, they renewed their relationship and remarried on June 1, 2001. They had a son, Charles Martin Nash, born on May 20, 1959. The child remained nameless for a year because Alicia, having just committed Nash to a mental hospital, felt that he should have a say in what to name the baby. As was his parents, Charles Martin grew up to be a mathematician, but like his father, he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenic. Alicia remained married to John Nash living together in Princeton, New Jersey until their tragic death together in the same car accident on May 23, 2015 on the New Jersey turnpike. She has been credited with saving his life after the ravages of schizophrenia had taken its toll. She was 82 years old.
