Sir Martyn Gervase Beckett, 2nd Bt. was the son of Sir William Gervase Beckett, 1st Bt. and his second wife, Lady Marjorie Blanche Eva Greville.

He married Hon. Priscilla Léonie Helen Brett, daughter of Oliver Sylvain Baliol Brett, 3rd Viscount Esher and Antoinette Heckscher, on 22 February 1941.

He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.
He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Beckett, of Kirkdale, County of York [U.K., 1921] on 24 August 1937.
He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1940 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).
He fought in the Second World War. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Welsh Guards.
He was a consulting architect for Gordonstoun School between 1954 and 1958.
He was invested as a Fellow, Ancient Monuments Society (F.A.M.S.) in 1955.
He was architect for King's College, Cambridge between 1960 and 2001.
