Berniece Rose Prater was the daughter of Henry Calvin and Mattie Catherine Rose. She was born on Fonde Mountain, Bell County, Kentucky. She taught elementary school in Bell County, KY, for 10 years, and after moving to Miami Florida in 1956, taught 5th and 6th grade for the next 32 years. She finally retired after 42 years of teaching. After retiring, she moved to Ormond Beach, Florida, where she lived out the rest of her days doing all the things she loved. She was cremated after her death in 2012 and brought back home to Kentucky, where her ashes were placed in the ground between her beloved mama and papa. Her grave is unmarked.
