Charles Ralph "Ding" Bell, 89, of Hillsdale, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at home. He was born July 2, 1923 in Hillsdale MI to Frank and Wilma (Cox) Bell. Ding served in the US Army in Germany during WWII from 1941–1945. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and received the Bronze Star. He worked 34 years as a mason for Foulke Construction. He was also a mechanic for Studebaker's Garage in Hillsdale. A life member and past Commander of the Reading VFW Post #9941, Ding also loved fishing, gardening, caring for his yard, and getting together with his family and friends.

He married Betty (Hartley) on October 20, 1945 and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2013.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Kuhn of Hillsdale, Wilma (Raymond) Davis of Reading, Judy (R. J.) Richards of Jonesville; one son, Robert (Karen) Bell of Mason; three sisters-in-law, Betty Bell of Jackson; Enda Belle Schaver of Coldwater, Vi Hartley of Tekonsha; 1 brother-in-law, Rex Hartley of Hillsdale; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Betty, he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers (James & Everett) and 1 sister (Thelma).

Visitation is scheduled Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Reading. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Interment will follow in Cambria Cemetery #2.
