Lewis A. Kee, 56, farmer, rescued Leona F. Cordrey, 24, and Ina M. McIntyre, 50, from a homicidal attack, Oregon, Missouri, October 3, 1927. Mrs. Cordrey was struck on the head with a hatchet by her husband, Jesse Cordrey, in their home and ran screaming from the house. Then striking Miss McIntyre with the hatchet, Cordrey ran around the house in pursuit of his wife. Kee, who was in the house, hurried to an outside door, reaching it as Mrs. Cordrey arrived there and was about to be struck again. Kee pushed open a screen door between Mrs. Cordrey and her assailant, and, as he was trying to prevent Cordrey's striking Mrs. Cordrey, Cordrey struck Kee with the hatchet and knocked him to his hands and knees. Mrs. Cordrey ran through the house and escaped further injury. While attempting to master Cordrey, Kee was struck repeatedly on the head, but he finally got hold of the hatchet. Cordrey then grabbed a shotgun and fired at Miss McIntyre as she was running away from the house. A little later he shot and killed himself. Kee's skull was fractured in five places, and he suffered other injuries and was disabled for more than a year. Both women were seriously injured, but they recovered.
