Mearl E. Kramer died attempting to save Frank Baum from drowning, St. Louis, Missouri, July 7, 1925. While Frank, 13, schoolboy, was swimming in the River des Peres, he got into distress and floated in a swift current 30 feet from the bank. After two other boys had made futile attempts to help him and had swum back to the bank, Mearl, 14, schoolboy, swam to him and took hold of him. Frank threw his arms around Mearl’s neck, and both went under the surface and were drowned.
