John Abbott was the son of Charles Abbott (1730-1803) and Mary Kingston; he married Dorothy (Dorah) Hingston about 1796 in Ireland. They immigrated to Canada in 1822 and settled in the Irish Concession, Williamstown, near Howick, Chateauguay, Quebec. Dorah was buried at the Ste. Martine Catholic Church Cemetery, but it is believed that John was buried at "Chateauguay Church Graveyard" (how the Georgetown Presbyterian Cemetery was referred to in two 19th century family histories) by and at the expense of his son Charles Abbott (also buried here).
