John Pershing McInerney, Sr. was born in St. Louis, MO on June 7, 1918. He was married on July 20, 1939 to Thelma Margurite (nee Bender). During World War II, John joined the United States Marine Corps, fought on Iwo Jima and served occupation duty in Sasebo, Japan. He was a proud member of the International Association of Machinists (IAM) and worked until retirement as a machinist for several companies in the St. Louis area. During his off hours, John served as a volunteer fireman for the Affton, MO Fire Department. Post-retirement, John worked as a security guard for Hudson Security.

In 2006, John and Thelma relocated to Frisco, TX, where his son Frank and family resided, and set up residence in The Lodge On Preston Ridge, an assisted living facility. He became a very active leader in the facility and served his fellow residents by calling bingo, making birthday and other announcements, making weekend plumbing repairs, while the maintenance staff was absent, and was considered the Master of Ceremonies for the Lodge.

John left this earth on Friday, November 15, 2013, eight months to the day after his wife Thelma passed away. John was also preceded in death by his parents, Delia (nee McGrath) and Henry (aka Harry) McInerney, older sister Mary Catherine Steffan and his younger brother Henry Charles McInerney. He is survived by sons, John Jr., Frank and Michael, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His family will miss him dearly, but takes comfort in knowing that he is rejoined with Thelma and lives in peace with God.

Graveside services will be held at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 1 pm. Military honors will be accorded at graveside.
