Gene Wheat, 67, of Hattiesburg died Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Wesley Medical Center. Services will be Friday, May 29, 2015 at Moore Funeral Chapel in Petal at 11:30 a.m. followed by burial in Green's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Wheat was a member of Maybank Baptist Church. He was a meat cutter for 40 years, primarily working at both Sunflower and Walmart, until his retirement in 1999. He was an avid fisherman and loved old cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Edward and Jeanette Wheat and one brother Donald Wheat.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha Wheat of Hattiesburg; three sons, Russell (Sara) Wheat of Dallas, Tex., Chris (Julie) Wheat of Petal, and David (Shannon) Wheat of Hattiesburg; one step daughter, Tracy (Josh) Williams of Shelbyville, Tenn.; one sister, Linda Mooney of Mount Olive; four brothers, Virgil Wheat of Bogalusa, La., David Wheat of Laurel, Bobby Wheat of Collins, and Bill Wheat of Petal; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Petal.
