SEARLES, PATRICIA ANGELINE FOWLER, 87, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Oaklawn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 11, 1922 in Manilla, IA, attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison and graduated With Honors from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies.

Pat lived her life with beauty and grace. Her strong faith and dedication to family and community shone through all aspects of her life from her service as a pharmacist first class in the Waves (Navy) during World War II to working with the GE wives for Metro United Way, Fund for Arts and as a precinct poll worker for 19 years. She was actively involved in all of her five children's school activities, serving as a PTA president and Cub Scout troop leader. Pat was an expert seamstress, gourmet cook and a talented artist, yet her real passion was golf, making a hole-in-one at Seascape Golf Club in Miramar Beach, FL. She was a member of Bellarmine Women's Council, the University of Louisville Alumni Association and a past president of Seneca Women's Golf.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Sarah Martina (Ahern) and Ross Reginald Fowler; and her sister, Sarah Anne Fowler Washburn.

Married August 7, 1942 in Long Beach, CA, she is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, J B Searles; her children, Patricia Searles Vairin (Michael), Michael Ross Searles (Deirdre) of Boston, MA, J. Brian Searles (Dian) of Denver, CO, Mary Anne Searles (Michael Gadberry), of Tampa, FL and Theresa Jane Searles (Marshall Lang), of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Carrie Neighbour Searles, Denver, CO, James Brian (Jay) Searles, San Jose, CA, Justin Ross Searles, Los Angeles, CA, Alexander Morgan Searles, Boston, MA, Westford Lewis Lang and Campbell Fowler Lang, Dallas, TX and Katherine Grace Gadberry and Caroline Leigh Gadberry, Tampa, FL.; her sister, Margaret Fowler Nelson, Kansas City, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Pat donated her body to the University of Louisville School of Medicine to assist in the development of a cure for Parkinson's Disease.

Her family extends a heartfelt thank you to all the staff and personnel at Oaklawn for their compassionate care and support.

A memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Cherrywood Road, Louisville, with a gathering to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Parkinson's Support Center of Kentuckiana, Suite 105, 4912 US Highway 42, Louisville, KY 40222 or Mass of the Air, 508 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40207.
