Kathryn Bailey Nelson, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away the afternoon of May 24, 2015 in Ogden, Utah.

Kathryn was born in Payson, Utah, on December 2, 1927, to parents James Arthur Bailey and Katy Oletha Ellett. She grew up in the Spanish Fork area with her older sister and younger brother until her sophomore year, when she moved to Ogden. She attended Ogden High School, Utah State, and Weber State University, where she earned her Master’s in Education. Kathryn married her sweetheart, George Richard Nelson, in 1948 and together they had three children. They celebrated 53 years of marriage together before George passed in October of 2001.

The majority of her life was lived in Ogden and in Pleasant View, where she raised her family. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, painting with water colors, and spending time with her family – especially her great-grandchildren. She had a soft spot for dogs and cats and many cherished pets were fortunate enough to spend a very pampered life in her home.

Kathryn spent her life taking care of others. She worked as an elementary and junior high school teacher for Weber School District for over 25 years and, like her husband, she had a great impact on countless young lives. She is kind and generous and was always willing to sacrifice her personal goals and desires to take care of her family first. Her humility and selflessness will forever be remembered and honored by those she leaves behind.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband, George and her son, Chris – both of whom have waited many years to see her again – and we feel the joy of their reunion. She is also preceded by her brother, Jim.

She is survived by Lorraine (sister), Greg (son), Lori (daughter), Steve (grandson), Heather (granddaughter-in-law), as well as Charles, Katelyn, William and Elaina (great-grandchildren).

Interment Ben Lomond Cemetery.
