John Stevens Bookout, 24, died as the result of a one-car accident while he was enroute to work on Wednesday, Jan.2, 1974, at 5:30 a.m. in New Mexico.
Funeral services were held in the Schaetter Funeral Chapel in Fredericksburg Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. and at 2:15 p.m. in St Mary's Catholic Church.
The Rev. John McHugh, an uncle of the youth from Buenos Aires, was the celebrant of the mass; and con-celebrants were the Rev. James Flannagan of Kansas City; Msgr. Erwin A. Juraschek, Rev. Pat Marron and Rev. Francis Kalina, of St. Mary's.
The Rev. McHugh read the homily and Oscar Braune, stepfather of the youth, was the lector.
The rosary was recited in the Schaetter Funeral Chapel Friday at 8 p.m.
Mr. Bookout worked as a welder for a pipeline construction company, and was also a student at the University of New Mexico where he majored in anthropology and archaeology. He was in the 389th Eng. Co. Reserves, and was a graduate of Holy Cross High School, Canon City, Colo.
He was born June 10, 1949, in Tulsa, Okla., the son of the late Charles L. Bookout and Mary McHugh Bookout, now Mrs. Oscar Braune of Fredericksburg. His father, a brother and a sister were killed in an automobile accident several years ago.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Braune of Fredericksburg; a brother, Charles Patrick Bookout of Lake Orion, Mich.; and grandfather, James E. McHugh of Kerrville.
Preceding him in death were his father; a brother, James Michael Bookout; and a sister Amy Lee Bookout.
Pallbearers were Charles Patrick Bookout, Kenneth Otteni, Thomas Halm, Gary Bookout, Dr. Timothy Halm and Robert Ruddock. Honorary pallbearers ere C.L. Weinheimer, Milton Crenwelge, Frank Molberg, Henry Molberg, Kermit Ernst and Jerry Durr.
Mrs. John J. Moritz was the organist at the funeral home, and Mrs. C. L. Weinheimer for the church rites. Mrs. Melvin Itz was the vocalist.
