From the Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home Memorial Card:
Reba Irene (Rose) Waits
Reba I. Waits, 91, of Lamar, Mo., passed away at 9:15 A.M. Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Lakeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, in Lamar, after a lengthy illness.
Reba was born July 24, 1908, at Milford, Mo., to Charles and Nellie (Thomas) Rose. She was a lifetime Lamar area resident. Reba owned and operated Wait's Dairy Farm, north of Lamar, for eight years, selling the first pasturized [sic] milk in Lamar; she owned and operated the Corner Drug Store in Lamar for 17 years; and was a hostess at the Blue Top Restaurant in Lamar for 21 years before retiring.
Reba was a member of the First Christian Church in Lamar and a member of the Lamar Business and Professional Women's Club, being named "Woman of the Year" in 1971.
She married Forrest "Kelly" Waits on March 3, 1926, at Sheldon, Mo. He preceded her in death April 13, 1967.
Survivors include two daughters, Bernice Welborn and Wilma Long, both of Lamar, Mo.; a son, Charles "Bud" Waits, who was listed as "missing in action" in 1952 during the Korean War; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Everett Rose, Mindenmines, Mo.; and two sisters [redacted; living as of 2022]. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Rose, Eldon Rose and Estelle Rose; and three sisters, Eula Hagins, Thelma Frogge and Jean Zinn.
--------------
Aunt Reba was the first child of Charles and Nellie (Thomas) Rose. She was friendly and outgoing, with a pretty smile and a quick laugh. She and her husband, Kelly, owned a dairy in Lamar, and later The Corner Drugstore. They would allow me to sit on the floor, out of people's way over in a corner, and read the comic books from the racks, but I was to put them back in their proper place. Sometimes they would treat me to a cherry phosphate.
I spent many hours reading those comics, being ever so careful to not bend the pages, while I waited for my mother to get off work at the department store on the other side of the square.
