Mrs. Mary E. Capps Passed Away Friday.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Capps, a resident of El Dorado Springs for thirty-three years, died last Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. F. Steveson, near Garwin, Ia., where she was spending the winter months.
She had been in failing health since last May, when she suffered a light stroke at her home here. She was then taken to the home of her daughter where, on November 5, she suffered an attack of influenza, from which she never fully recovered. Heart trouble was given as the immediate cause of her death.
Mrs. Capps, the eldest daughter of Nathan and Ann Wombles, was born January 6. 1853, in Lincoln county, Mo., and was over 85 years old. She was married December 18, 1874, to Nelson Capps, in the home where she was born. Her husband died in March 1894.
She was the mother of ten children, two sons and eight daughters, five of whom preceded her in death. Her entire life was spent in Lincoln, St. Clair, Vernon and Cedar counties, in Missouri, with the exception of three years she lived near Claremore, Okla., where her husband and two daughters died.
She became a member of the Missionary Baptist church when she was a young woman and remained a faithful member of that denomination until her death. She leaves to mourn her departure one son, J. J. Capps, Victor, Mont.; and four daughters, Mrs. A. E. Burchett, Granville, N. D.; Mrs. T. F. Steveson, Garwin, Ia.; Mrs. J. C. Hatton, Traer, Ia.; Mrs. J. K. Dickinson, Toledo, Ia. She also leaves twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Malissa Monroe, Hawk Point, Mo., and Mrs. Bell Carson, Parsons, Kas.
Her son in Montana and daughter in North Dakota were unable to attend the funeral, but visited her in December and January.
Funeral services took place Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Nafus funeral home in this city and were conducted by Rev. Frank Craig. The music was furnished by Mrs. S. S. Beaird and Edna McWilliams who gave the following selections: "There Is No Disappointment in Heaven," "We are Going Down the Valley," and "When My Soul Reaches Home." Pallbearers were: H. G. Bottom, C. S. Cochran, W. L. Estes, W. B. Hicks, G. R. Toler, W. H. Putnam. Burial was in the Berea cemetery, northwest of Walker.
