Reason, my 4 great grandfather, had 2 sons & 6 daughters, need names---first & last if you have them; he left no will. I did find a land record in Crawford County that showed he got his land from father-Andrew & sold some to son Martin. BUT the others remain unknown

FAMILY INFO:
"History of the Bates Family" is a two page typed leaflet that was used or handed out at a family reunion held on 17 Aug 1887 (attended by 1000 people). I received a copy of it from Jayne Reed of Parma, she did not record it's source.
It reads..."Sometime during the seventeenth century our great grandfather, who was a native of Germany, emigrated to America & settled in Lancaster Cnty PA. He was married to a sister of General Heintezleman, who held a command in the Continental Army during our struggle for independence. He & his brother joined the army under Gen Heintezleman & were both killed at the Battle of Brandywine. About the year 1785 his son, Andrew Bates, our grandfather, moved from Lancaster County to Fayette County PA with his family, which consisted of himself, his wife & 10 children. He there bought a farm, built a gristmill & a still-house. He resided there until the year 1800 then moved to Crawford County & settled on the farm upon which we are holding this, our first reunion for the purpose of gratefully remembering those who braved the hardships of an almost unbroken wilderness & to renew old & form new acquaintances with the friends & relatives of this very large & interesting family. The names of the children of Andrew Bates were: Christian, Andrew, John, Elias, Jeremiah, Reasin, Emmanuel who died when a young man, George, Catherine & Sarah. These children, except the 2 girls & 2 boys, all settled within 2 miles of where their father lived & they a few miles distant."

This leaflet states Andrew's descendants in number are at presently ascertained as: CHRISTAIN 11 children---98 grand; ANDREW 9 children---36 grand; JOHN 12 children---72 grand; JEREMIAH 12 children---29 grand; REASIN 8 children---28 grand; ELIAS 5 children---??grand; GEORGE 3 children---??grand; SARAH Birch 10 children; MARY Sherbondy 10 children.
IT DOES GO ON but the order of the names contained in it is of interest as most often when naming children the oldest is first etc... I did use this as the birth order of the children, inserting Emmanuel who died, George & the girls in their proper spots.

CHRISTIAN: left a will naming all his children except Mary Ann Graves. Her spouse was the executor of that will.

REV.JOHN: was mentioned in PA County histories naming all the living children

ELIAS: is listed in one of the Crawford County Genealogies with his family. It contains pages from a family bible
