Florence A. Gray was born December 25, 1856, in Mango county, Illinois, and departed this life April 25, 1940, at the age of 83 years and four months, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Irene Hurse of Everett, Washington, after a lingering illness.
At the age of seventeen she obeyed the gospel and lived a faithful Christian life until death. October 3, 1876, she was united in marriage to Daniel J. Poynter, who preceded her in death seven years ago.
They came to Boone county, Nebraska in the fall of 1881, locating on Plum Creek. They lived there twelve years, moving to Albion in 1893.
To this union were born two children, Dr. J. F. Poynter of Davenport, Washington, and Mrs. S. J. Hurse of Everett, Washington.
She was a kind and devoted wife and mother. Her greatest enjoyment in life was in serving her friends and in helping in time of need. Her motto was Charity. She was a real home builder, friend and good neighbor to all. She entered heartily into all her husband’s work and but for her, he could not have accomplished what he did.
Besides her two children, she leaves four grandchildren, three great grandchildren; a brother, J. K. Gray, a sister, Miss Mary A. Gray; and a nephew, Otto Gray.
Mrs. Hurse accompanied the body of her mother here.
