Funeral services were held for the late E. J. Kendall, 79, pioneer Ennis resident, Thursday at Ennis, where burial also took place. The Rev. Leslie Seymour, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated.
Interment was made in Myrtle Cemetery beside his wife who passed away Feb 23, 1936.
Edgar Jester Kendall was born in Navarro County, near Corsicana, Nov 18, 1865. He came to Ennis with his parent, Thomas Jefferson and Martha Louisa Jester Kendall when he was a small child.
Surviving are 7 children, 5 daughters, Mrs. J. J. Newman of Beaumont, Mrs. T. G. Jones and Mrs. Kenneth Donnell of Ennis, Mrs. Braxon Brown of Beaumont and Mrs. W. H. Hartley of Ennis; and two sons, E. J. (Dick) Kendall, Jr. and J. D. Kendall, both of Ennis, also 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are 4 sisters, Mrs. I. R. Allen of Ennis, Mrs. Byrd Taylor of Houston, Mrs. Marcia Anderson of Shreveport, LA, and Mrs. Dave Fearis of Georgetown.
Mr. Kendall was a member of the First Methodist Church and had been active in every phase of the church activities. He was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and had always been a most faithful attendant at both the church service and the Sunday School until his illness. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias and was enjoying a game of dominoes at the K of P Hall when he was stricken.
