Swanson, Floyd A. Born October 3, 1929 in Streator, Illinois to August and Helga Swanson. He passed away August 23, 2014. He spent his childhood and high school years in Lostant, Illinois. In 1951 he joined the United States Air Force and was sent to Bryan, Texas as a jet mechanic. He met and married Mary Kathryn Swanson of Dallas and they returned to Wenona, Illinois to live. After five years of farming in Illinois, they returned to Dallas where they lived for 35 years and raised a family. Floyd worked for Wyatt's Cafeteria for 14 years. He served as manager for several of their cafeterias. He then was employed by the Dallas Park and Recreation Department as an Administrative Assistant. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where he was active in the finances of the church. He and his wife were members of the First Knighters Square Dance Club. In 1993 he retired and he and his wife moved to Lake Winnsboro. They were active members of First United Methodist Church of Winnsboro.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Kathryn Swanson; daughter, Dr. Lisa Swanson; son, Pat H. Swanson and wife, Maureen of Houston; granchildren, Fiona Swanson, Patrick Swanson, Brian Swanson and Kenneth Swanson. He is also survived by many cousins in Rockford, Illinois.
The visitation will be held Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, August 29, 2014 at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to The First United Methodist Church of Winnsboro, Texas.
