Mary Kathryn Swanson, born February 24, 1929, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 26, 2015. She graduated from Highland Park High School. North Texas State University, and received a Master’s degree from SMU. She loved pursuing her gift of teaching. She taught 35 years, 29 at Martha Turner Reillly Elementary School. She was a Life Member of the PTA, Teacher of the Year Nominee 1982, Member Texas State Teacher Association, Dallas Classroom Teachers Association, discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship, Junior Mentor Club of Dallas, Retired Teachers of Texas, the Standard Club of Winnsboro, and First Knighters Square Dance Club. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Dallas until she retired in1993. She became an active member of First United Methodist Church In Winnsboro and taught a young adult class.
She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Swanson, sister Patsy Storie, and brother John Lane Henry. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Lisa Swanson, her son Pat Swanson, her daughter-in-law, Maureen and grandchildren Fiona, Patrick, Brian, Kenneth Swanson and her nieces Susan Storie, Sherry Plesnarski and Kristy Henry.
Mary's family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. Services for Mary will take place at 2:30 pm on Friday, April 3, 2015 at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
