Timothy Wayne Abernathy, 64, of La Fayette, Illinois died at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at home.
He was born on February 20, 1951 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Wayne and Doris Jennings Abernathy. He was reared and educated in the Galva and Peoria areas, graduating from Richwoods High School and attending Black Hawk East in Kewanee, Illinois. He married Sharon K. Preston on February 10, 1973 in Galva, Illinois.
Timothy is survived by his wife, Sharon; two sons, Brad (Marlo) Abernathy of Galesburg, Illinois, Kipp (Michelle Offill) Abernathy of Rock Falls, Illinois, three grandsons, Zach Abernathy, Bryce Abernathy, Krayten Abernathy and one granddaughter, Kieryn Abernathy. Also surviving are his parents, Wayne and Doris Abernathy of Galva, Illinois, two sisters, Tina Abernathy and Tonya Abernathy, both of Galva, Illinois, and aunts and uncles.
Timothy was a welder, working for the Aldrich Company in Wyoming, Illinois for twenty three years. He was a member of the La Fayette Volunteer Fire Department. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Timothy was a fan of the Chicago Bears, enjoyed growing tomatoes, fishing and spending time outdoors and was an avid music fan. He loved his family, his kids, grandkids and his dogs.
A celebration of life will be at noon on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the La Fayette United Methodist Church, 302 Franklin Street, La Fayette, Illinois. A fellowship will follow at the church. A private graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the La Fayette Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
