ROY - Bryce Wheeler Baker, 84, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, May 31, 2015 with his loving wife, Sylvia, at his side after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

He was born in Roy, Utah to Newel Parley Baker and Rosella Wheeler Baker.

He was the second child of seven children. He spent the first five years of his life in Roy before moving to Burley, ldaho. Bryce learned to work hard at an early age on his family's ranch. He graduated from Burley High School and Brigham Young University with a Business Degree. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent two years in the Eastern States Mission. He returned home and married Barbara Billings and they later had six children. Bryce spent two years in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his service he returned to ldaho and homesteaded 318 acres of rough, rocky ground in Minidoka. Barbara and Bryce left ldaho in 1960 and moved to the Santa Clara Valley in California. They worked hard and originated the Challenger Private Schools. Later they moved to Utah and continued the successful growth of their business. In 1991 they were divorced and went their separate ways. Bryce later met and married the love of his life, Sylvia Hartshorn Benson. They spent their time between St. George and Roy, Utah. Together they had a wonderful 23 years of square dancing, hiking, camping and traveling all over the world. Bryce will be remembered for his love of music and exercise. He spent many happy hours in Sylvia's classroom teaching music to her students.

Bryce believed that the greatest attributes a person could possess are integrity, honesty, and a strong work ethic. He tried to live his life by these principles.
