Johan Mathias Flaugh (1752-1834) served as a soldier under General George Washington
[1885] PA--Historical Record of Crawford Cnty--pg 665; Among the first settlers in Crawford County was Mathias Flaugh, also a German, came West with his 4 sons & settled upon 200 acres in Tract #159. He was a fervent Lutheran & it is related that he used to conduct the services at burials when no minister was present.
PG-1149: Contains Samuel Flaugh, Samson Flaugh & Nicholas Flaugh; all grandsons of Matthias Flaugh. The story of Samson tells this: His paternal grandfather, Matthias Flaugh was one of the first settlers of Woodcock Twp & his maternal grandfather was Frederick Hickernell who was an early settler of Hayfield Twp.

WASHINGTON'S BODY GUARD BURIED HERE John W. Engelhaupt, Revolutionary War soldier and a member Washington's body guards, is buried in the Foust Cemetery on the East Side. These personal guards carried the title of Washington Life Guards. Engelhaupt had the rank of Captain in the Continental Army. He was one of the hired Hessians that fought for the Colonies during the Revolutionary War.
