William Clyde Sunderland, 86, of Gifford, died Tuesday morning in Bradford Hospital where he had been a patient seven weeks. He had been in failing health two years.

He was born at Mahaffey on Feb. 2, 1883, the son of Jeff and Mary Baker Sunderland and had worked in the mines in Clearfield County for 28 years before moving to this area in 1942 when he became affiliated with Bovaird and Seyfang Manufacturing Co. His first wife, the former Eva Beam, dies [sic] in 1927.

Surviving are his wife, Fannie Bell Sunderland whom he married May 30, 1944, at Olean, N.Y.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Robert Gorton of Gifford, Mrs. Edward Fox of Smethport, and Mrs. Edward Chrisley of Bradford; one stepson, E.F. Bell of Rochester, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Maude Hines of Tonawanda, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Friends are being received at the Hollenbeck Funeral Chapel where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. C. Dale DuPont, pastor of the Gifford United Methodist Church, officiating. Committal services will be at 2:30 p.m. at the New Washington Cemetery in Mahaffey, with burial to follow.
