Raymond S. Benson, 85, of Akron, formerly of Barnesville, died Monday (Feb. 19, 2001) at Hospice Care Center, Akron.

He was born April 3, 1915, in Belmont County, son of the late William Caldwell and Sarah Imelda (Wilcox) Benson.

Mr. Benson was a member of Barnesville Main Street United Methodist Church and the United Steel Workers of America.

He retired from General Metals Powder Co. and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Benson; four sisters, Clara Truex, Edna Gatten, Mary Greg and Laura Kemp; five infant brothers and sisters.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Lenora (Logan) Benson; two sons, William (Darya) of Akron and Robert (Lillian) of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Jonathan (Martha) Hymes of Tallmadge and Linda DePrato of Akron; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, with services to follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Ledvinka officiating.

Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville.
