He was drafted during 1779 under Captain William Byers, Major Hawthorn and Colonel Neel.
Next, he served under Colonels Hill and Horry as a captain and was in numerous skirmishes with the Tories.
Thereafter, he served as a private under Captain George McCullough and Colonels Marion, Bratton and Graham.
At sometime, he was under Captain William given and General Sumter.
