James H. Akes was born about 1838-39. Conflicting records indicate he was born in possibly KY, IN, IL, MO, IA, or more probably, Scott Co., AR. He married Fanny McKinney 1859, Butler Co. MO. He Married Melissa A. FARR abt 1869. His first child was born in Bastrop TX 1870. He died in 1902 due to paralysis.
During the Civil War, James served in the Confederate Army, and was wounded in both his legs--his right leg being amputated, and his left side causing some paralysis.
