Sports Figure. Boxing promoter and founder of the New York Rangers hockey team. In 1925 he obtained the rights to promote events at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He was partners with boxer Jack Dempsey and his manager Jack Kearns, and was responsible for the first live radio broadcast of a title fight in 1921. In 1925 Rickard obtained a NHL franchise, and the Rangers came into being. He opened "Boston Madison Square Garden" in 1928, now known as Boston Garden.
