He was partners with boxer Jack Dempsey and his manager Jack Kearns, and was responsible for the first live radio broadcast of a title fight in 1921. In 1925 Rickard obtained a NHL franchise, and the Rangers came into being. He opened "Boston Madison Square Garden" in 1928, now known as Boston Garden.
