Mr. James Augusta Stevens, 86, of Woodsboro, died Friday, June 5, 2015 at his home. Born February 27, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of the late George Norman Stevens and Helen Joy Stevens. He was the husband of Patricia Shull Stevens, his wife of 63 years.

Mr. Stevens worked on the family farm with his father until he went into the service. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska for several years. Following his discharge from the service, he delivered kerosene for Sinclair. He worked in construction as a project manager for Frederick Contractors which became Frederick Construction and Bruchey Builders. He eventually had his own home improvement business.

Jim was very active in community fund raisers. He was a charter member of the LIbertytown Volunteer Fire Co. and was an involved member of the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Co., serving as chief at one time. He was awarded a lifetime membership in the Glen W. Eyler American Legion Post and was actively involved in their new addition and the handicap ramp. He worked until his early 80's at Dorsey Meats of Woodsboro. Jim was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Libertytown. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 daughters, Cynthia Zentner and husband Joe of Copper Oaks, Kimberly Sweadner and husband Rick and Teresa Harrington, all of Woodsboro and Katrina Shaffer and husband Charles of Myersville; 7 grandchildren, Amanda Wagner of Virginia Beach; Ryan, Bradley and Meghan McCutcheon and Stephanie Mangold, all of Woodsboro and Brandon and Garret Shaffer of Myersville. As one of 11 siblings, Jim is survived by sisters, Louise Mullinix and husband Bob of Damascus; Catherine VanSant and husband Rodney and Rosie Ecker and husband Richard, all of Libertytown; Helen Young and husband Blaine of Taneytown and brother, Edward Stevens of Libertytown; sister-in-law, Ann Stevens of Libertytown and brother-in-law, Bill Stine of Libertytown. He was predeceased by sisters Elizabeth Keilholtz and husband Bill, Patricia Baust and husband Charles and Virginia Stine; brothers, George Stevens and wife Madge and Robert Stevens.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 noon Wednesday, June 10 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Jason Worley, as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 9. A memorial service will be conducted by members of the Glen W. Eyler American Legion Post at 7:45 p.m.
