Known by her middle name, Jean, she was a compassionate person with a wonderful sense of humor. She had a wide circle of friends from all walks of life. She was devoted to family, and her sisters were her best friends.
She was active in the Lamar First Christian Church, where she taught various classes, from tots to teens. She sang in the choir and was often asked to sing harmony in a duet or quartet for special occasions. (She and I [her daughter] sometimes sang duets at church services, and the songs we harmonized on still bring tears to my eyes.)
Jean was always willing to take a carload of kids to church camp or other out-of-town events. If it was to a skating rink or swimming pool, she would tie on skates or don a swimsuit and have as much fun as the kids.
She died at the age of 45 as a result of injuries from an auto accident when an oncoming car swerved into her lane of travel and hit her car head-on.
Things I learned from her: Trust God. Think of others before yourself. Always do your best. Find something good in every person and every situation. She taught me these things by the way she lived.
