He married 1st Nettie Bowman. One son, William E., was born to this marriage. Nettie died in childbirth of the second baby. She and the baby are both buried in Taylor County, Iowa.

He married 2nd Caroline Ludica Cordell, 8 Nov 1893, Athenstan, Taylor County, Iowa.
