BENNETT ABSTON OBITUARY

LORAIN – Bennett "Ben" Abston Jr., 75, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011.

He was born May 28, 1935 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He had been a resident of the Lorain area since 1973.

Bennett worked at the Lorain Ford Plant in the paint department for 30 years and retired in 1997. He was a member of the UAW Local 425 and a member of Cathedral of Praise Worship Center in Lorain. He loved football, playing cards, and shopping.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Sandra M. Abston (nee Dunlap); 3 sons, Kareem Abston of Lorain, Bennett Abston III of Washington DC, and Jason (Bruni) Dunlap of Columbus OH; 7 daughters, Gresena Guiton, Latanya "Rene" Abston, Patricia Abston, and Mary (Allen) Perry, all of Detroit MI, Kimberly Holmes of Columbus OH, Kizzie Victoria Todd of Kansas City MO, and Bobbi Ali of Indianapolis IN; 2 brothers, Dennis and Darnell Abston, both of Detroit MI; 4 sisters, Mae Kathrine McBound, Brenda Sweeney and Bealer Mitchelle, all of Detroit MI, and Queen Ester Jones of Florida; a host a grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and other loving relatives and friends.

Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, Bennett Abston Sr. and Jessie Mae Abston (nee Butts); 3 brothers, James, Thomas and Marvin Abston; a sister, Geraldine Allen; and stepmother, Lucille Abston.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of Praise Worship Center, 4545 Elyria Ave in Lorain; District Elder Melvin Brown to officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
