Marion "Rita" Jones, age 92, passed away peacefully April 19, 2015, surrounded by family in the Tucson, Arizona, home she shared with her son Richard.
Born July 3, 1922, Rita was raised in the NYC/New Jersey area by her mother Marie and stepfather Harry Litchner. Along with her sisters, Marie and Mary Ellen, she attended Catholic schools, where she graduated with honors. She retained her love of learning and could recite epic poems from memory at the end of her long life.
She met her husband, Richard at Fort Dupont, Delaware, where he served as master sergeant.
After WWII they moved to his tobacco farm in So. Windsor, CT, and raised six children. Rita and her family moved to Tucson in 1971, and she worked for the U.S. Postal Service, Cherrybell Station. She retired after 25 years of service and received citations for performance and attendance.
Rita was preceded in death [51 years earlier] by her beloved husband, Richard; and daughter, Ruth "Buffer" Rogers.
She is survived by her other five children, Bonnie Lester, Oliver Jones, Richard Jones, Kevin Jones, and Kiley DeGreen; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Rita was the last surviving member of our family's WWII generation, and she shared so many loving memories of them as they each passed before her. Now she can go to them again. Rita touched everyone she met through the years with her considerable wit and charm and will be greatly missed.
