Turners Falls – Gilbert D Campbell, 88, of 90 Fifth St., Turners Falls, died Tuesday (4-21-98) in the Anchorage Nursing Home in Shelburne.
He was born in Turners Falls, Sept. 19, 1909, a son of Daniel J and Flora (Beaumier) Campbell. He attended the former St Anne's Parochial School and Turners Falls High School.
He had been a lifelong resident of Turners Falls. He was the owner of the former Gilbert D Campbell, Inc., a painting and decorating company for over 30 years, retiring in 1975. He was a carpenter first class in the U. S. Navy, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Anne's Church in Turners Falls and a member of the Montague Lodge of Elks.
He enjoyed golfing and was a former member of the Thomas Memorial Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed playing the banjo.
His wife, the former Phyllis Streeter, died in 1978. Survivors include two brothers, Lionel Campbell and Maurice M Campbell, both of Turners Falls and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:15 a.m. From the Kostanski Funeral Home, Turners Falls followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at noon in St Anne's Church with the Rev Stanley Akaamit, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Green River Cemetery in Greenfield. Calling hours will be held this evening 7 to 9 p.m. At the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St Anne's Church renovation fund, 90 Seventh St., Turners Falls, MA 01376.
