Harold W. Bonitz, age 78, of the Town of Morse, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015 in the Town of Shanagolden. He was born December 10, 1936 in the Town of Morse, the son of Carl and Martha (Busse) Bonitz.

Harold graduated from Mellen High School and then worked for the U.S. Forest Service Job Corps in Clam Lake. He served 6 years in the Army National Guard and was on active duty for one year. Harold worked as the under sheriff in Sawyer County in the mid 1960's. He then spent 15 years with the U.S. Steel Corp. as a merchant marine sailing on a great lakes ore carrier. He then went to wok for the Louisiana Pacific Corp. for 13 years in Mellen and then for 2 years after it became Columbia Forest Products. He retired in 2002. Harold was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mellen. He enjoyed gardening and loved to go hunting and fishing. He especially loved going to Canada on fishing trips and spending the fall months at hunting camp in Iron County. Harold was a very kind and gentle man and will be sadly missed by many.

He is survived by a daughter, Brenda (fiancé Bruce Gore) Moon of Wausau, a son, Brian Bonitz of Toronto, Ontario, 2 grandsons, Taylor and Tanner Moon both of Wausau, 2 brothers, William (Donna) Bonitz of Indianapolis, IN and Martin (the late Joyce) Bonitz of Columbia Falls, Montana, 2 sisters, Lorraine (the late Richard) Kerr of Coleman, WI and Kathryn (William) Chandler of Mellen, an aunt, Ruth Bonitz of Cozy Valley, an uncle, George (Bernice) Bonitz of North Ridge, CA, special friends, Mike and Tammy Petroski of Glidden, the members of the Shed Horn Lodge in Iron County (Harold's deer hunting buddies) numerous nieces and nephews and a special chocolate lab named Jack.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mellen with Pastor Shawn Andersen officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M., Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Cozy Valley. A lunch at the church will follow the burial.
