Vriesen, who served a Newton church for nearly 40 years, died late
Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Treick of Newton,
with whom she had resided in recent years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Salem Ebenezer
Reformed church, Newton, with interment in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Vriesen, the former Katherine Grosshuesch, was born in Newtown
in 1852 and in 1877 was married to the Rev. Vriesen. The latter served
first as pastor of the Saron congregation at Sheboygan Falls and in
1888 came to Newton to take the pastorate of the Salem church, where
he served for 39 years until 1927. He died the day before his golden
wedding anniversary.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Treick and Mrs. John Bauer of
Newton, Mrs. Caleb Hauser of Sheboygan; two sons, the Rev. Henry Vriesen
of Reeseville, Wis., and the Rev. Otto Vriesen of Hamburg, Minn.; 15
grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the Urbanek and Schlei funeral home and will
be moved to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
