The funeral of Anton Haas, 71, who died at
his home here early Thursday morning,
April 23, 1936, will be held Sunday
afternoon at the home at 1:30 o'clock, and
at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in
Maynard at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of the
Rev. F. Lutz, pastor.
A quartet, Gerald Warnke,Dr. C.C. Hall,
E. H. Stewart, and Henry Warnke will sing
while Mrs. A. G.Schlegel will give a vocal
selection in German.
Casketbearers will be six nephews:
Andrew Gantenbein, Fred Benzer,
John F. Miehe, Harold Miehe, John
Sundermeyer, and Clarence Galliart.
Burial in Long Grove cemetery.
Mr. Haas was born July 31, 1855, at
Grabenten, Switzerland. When a year old, he
came to America with his parents. He
received his education in the Dubuque
County Schools. On May 8, 1890, he was
married to Susanna Sundermeyer of Sherril's
Mound, and they began housekeeping near
Dubuque. In 1895 they came to Fayette
County and established a home on a farm
three and one half miles northeast of
Maynard where they lived until six years
ago when they retired and moved to the
present home here.
About five years ago, he suffered a
stroke, and since then his health has
gradually failed.
Surviving are his widow, five children:
Mrs. Nora Ponsar of Andrew; Mrs. Emma
Watenpaugh, Mrs. Anna Rueckert, and
Anton, Jr. all of Maynard; and Mrs Susanna
Hartman of Dubuque; one sister, Mrs.
Lucia Galliart of Dubuque County; and 15
grand children.
Two children died in infancy, while one sister,
Mrs. Ursula Gantenbein, died in August, 1935.
