Dorothy Angelina Salerno was born in New York, New York on April 18, 1920 to Italian immigrants
Angelo and Josephine Margaret Buonocore-Broglia.
Her father Angelo was born in Sicily and her mother was born in Positano, Salerno, Campania, Italy on September 20, 1899.
According to Dorothy's mother's United States naturalization papers, dated October 19, 1938, Josephine arrived in New York, New York from Naples, Italy on September 7, 1905 and married Sicilian immigrant Angelo Broglia in New York, New York on February 16, 1919. They had one child, a daughter, Angelina (Dorothy) who was born on April 19, 1920.
At the time Josephine filed her naturalization papers in 1938, she was divorced from Dorothy's father Angelo and had remarried s gentleman with the last name of Ragonese, but was divorced from him by the 1940 U.S. Federal Census and living with her daughter Dorothy, her son-in-law Frederick Salerno and her 1 year old granddaughter, Margaret at 515 West 170th Street, New York, NY. Josephine was working as a waitress in 1938 and working as a maid in 1940.
Retiring at the age of 65 from her employment in New York, New York, Dorothy was at home with her husband Freddy at 350 Dupont Avenue in Hopatcong, New Jersey when she suffered a massive heart attack, just a little over a month after her 66th birthday.
She was rushed to the nearest hospital, Dover General Hospital in Dover, New Jersey where she passed away the same day on Thursday, May 22, 1986.
Dorothy, or Dottie as she was known to her family and friends, was predeceased by her dear parents and her beloved maternal grandparents Domenico and Maria Louisa Criscuolo-Buonocore, who were both Italian immigrants from Positano, Salerno, Campania, Italy who met and married in Italy.
Domenico emigrated to America before his wife Maria Louisa, arriving in New York, New York in 1899 from Italy. Maria Louisa emigrated to America arriving in New York, New York in 1905 from Italy with their ten year old son Louis Buonocore who was born in Positano, Salerno, Campania, Italy in 1894. Both Domenico and Maria Louisa died in New York.
Dottie was also predeceased by her maternal great-grandparents, Luigi and Maria Buonocore, who were both from Italy and died in Italy.
She was survived by her cherished husband, Frederick Salerno and their daughter Margaret.
