Dear Mr. Dunne:
You have listed an Ashel Gray, Revolutionary War Veternan as being buried in Gray's cemetery; his memorial #14771586. Well the truth is, it was always felt by local historians (who are now deceased), that he did die in Hadley, but in fact we don't know where. As for this particular gravestone, when I was Hadley Town Historian in 1981, I sent to the Federal gov't. for the g.s. and my husband, John, set the foundation and placed the stone on it. Gray's Cemetery was chosen because of it was easily seen from the main road. It had become known as "Gray's Cemetery" when in fact in older records it was called Scofield Cemetery. However, the body of Ashel Gray IS NOT BURIED IN THIS SPOT. For the sake of keeping history straight, you may want to put on some additional comments. Thanks for reading my message.
